New Mexico First facilitation skills training provides a well-defined, step-by-step approach to help people learn to run productive meetings. Whether you want to learn how to become a better group facilitator or simply a better participant in a group setting, this workshop will provide you with the knowledge and skills that enable groups to generate, develop, and select between ideas to reach consensus.

New Mexico First has a strong tradition of influencing public policy initiatives through our unique consensus-building process. Upon completion of this training, participants can become eligible to serve as a discussion leader or recorder at events organized by New Mexico First. In addition, this training makes participants more effective group facilitators in a wide variety of situations in their work organizations and communities.

Our facilitation skills workshop introduces participants to the processes that optimize group participation and effectiveness. Training covers event design, issue framing, discussion facilitation, consensus-building, and recording consensus statements and recommendations.

By the end of the workshop, you will be able to:

  • Design a group session using powerful questions as a basis for deliberations
  • Use tested methods to generate, refine, and select between ideas to reach consensus
  • Achieve and maintain group focus, encourage full group participation, and accomplish session objectives
